Beach Buggy Blitz
Beach Buggy Blitz is a fast paced, beat the clock, collect the coins, action packed game brought to us by Vector Unit. Available from google play for the very reasonable FREE!
Objective: The game starts with you driving the basic vehicle and with no power-ups. With 30 seconds on the clock you have to get to the checkpoint before you run out of time. On your way you collect as many coins as possible while dodging beach huts, palm trees, other racers and giant crabs. To get the most coins you may have to stray off the track and take your buggy off some huge ramps.
Content: Use the coins you have collected to buy upgrades for your buggy or a new buggy all together. There are 7 vehicles to choose from ranging from the basic beach buggy to a shiny lambini, also give your racer a lick of paint with a choice of colours. Each vehicle has different stats from speed to defence. Power-ups are also available (which are very much needed if you are to get further than 4 or 5 check points). Power-ups include speed boost (which does exactly what it says on the tin), shield, coin magnet, coin bubble and checkpoint (gives extra seconds crossing a checkpoint). Each of these is upgradeable by spending a little more coin. There are also character and single use upgrades available to purchase.
In-game purchases: Coins are purchasable in-game which can help boost you through the game but are not initially necessary.
Graphics: High quality graphics and flawless movement make this game a joy to play. Only drawback is how when you crash into objects they break up and disappear which I guess is to be expected in a cartoony style like this.
Controls: Simple controls automatic acceleration with break pedals in both bottom corners. Steering is achieved by touching the right and left sides of the screen. There is no tilt feature in this game I guess because not all android phones have tilt capability but would be nice to have the choice as touch steer causes occasional over steer.
Difficulty: Once you get the hang of the steering the game is moderately easy with some skill based manouvers.
Playability: Gets very repetitive as there is only one variation of the track and once you run out of time on your run its back to the start to try again. Unless you shell out 1000 coins for a single use 2km head start or 3000 for a 5km.
Overall Summary: With a very limited experience of variety when it comes to the track it gets very repetitive rather quickly. The beauty of this game saves it a little and the customisation is good too if you can see past the repetition to collect enough coin to afford them, or are willing to hand over your hard earned cash for the pleasure. With a few tweeks and maybe a random track developer this game has the potential to do very well.
